Vergence is currently recruiting for an Administrative clerk contract role in Michigan City, IN.


Duties
basic secretary duties plus assist with the following:
Help collect, sort, inspect, secure and affix postage to outgoing mail (offender and facility) including regular, certified, insured mail and packages on a daily basis. Routine outgoing mail is to be completed by 9:00 a.m. daily (Monday-Friday) and taken to the front entrance upon arrival of the U.S. Postal Service.
Pick up and process the offender outgoing mail bags from the information desk at 7:00 a.m. daily.
Locate and inspect incoming offender/staff mail for contraband or prohibited property.
Strive to keep all contraband/prohibited items from entering the facility including money orders, checks and currency.
Prevent unauthorized offender to offender correspondence.
Non-first class mail and packages will be completed within 48 hours of receipt. Offender mail bags will be delivered to the information desk by 3:00 p.m. daily.
Sort and separate incoming first class mail, packages, newspapers, magazines, other non-first class mail, legal mail, privileged mail and facility mail that are received daily. Legal and privileged mail will be located, counted, and forwarded to holding area immediately upon arrival daily. Facility staff mail will be delivered to the appropriate mail boxes by noon on a daily basis.
Maintain the record for prohibited property and special postage being mailed out of the facility by offenders.
Correspondence received for an offender who has been transferred or released will be forwarded at least once a week following DOC/ISP policy. Mail held for offenders out on court order will be checked daily and processed accordingly.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
