The walled enclosure of the Prison is home for approximately 1,926 incarcerated individuals and is in its own right a self-contained city which encompasses an area of 24 acres.
The Prison proper comprises 18 acres where housing units, industrial shops, and other facilities (i.
e.
food service and infirmary) are located.
The remaining 6 acres are now used as the recreation area with a field house and the Prisoner's Dining Room (PDR).
This area was used as the Hospital for the criminally insane prior to 1957.
Outside, immediately adjacent to the walls is an additional 88 acres.
This ground is used for the Official Staff residences and other correctional facilities such as Indiana State Prison - ISO/MSU and our own Powerhouse, storeroom, garage, etc.
Correctional Officer The Correctional Officer is an exciting opportunity to launch your Criminal Justice career.
In the role of a correctional officer you will build your experience by ensuring maintenance of order, control and supervision of incarcerated individuals in a state correctional institution and internal and external security.
You will advise and instruct incarcerated individuals in their adjustment to institutional living.
Work normally consists of relatively standardized tasks, following departmental and institutional policy.
However, work at times requires on-the-spot decision making when coping with one or more unruly or irate incarcerated individuals.
This position carries weapons when assigned to tower duty, transportation assignment, escape assignments or special assignments as determined by the appointing authority.
A Day in the Life Maintains order and security of incarcerated individuals in facility; Assists supervisor in appropriate administration of security related operations (key control, count, shakedowns, searches, inventory, equipment maintenance, radios, security systems, etc.
); Supervises incarcerated individuals in various work details including both within the facility and outside the facility; Escorts incarcerated individuals both inside the facility and on various trips away from the facility; Assists in identifying incarcerated individuals treatment needs and supports treatment programs; Maintains records and writes reports on incarcerated individuals movement, incarcerated individuals progress, and violations of policies and procedures; Remains alert for signs of disorder or tension; Counsels incarcerated individuals in an informal and unofficial capacity; Follows and insures compliance with established security procedures; Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Obtain and maintain driver's license What we are looking for Possession of a high school diploma or possession of a High School Equivalent (HSE).
Work experience, military experience and/or completed accredited college credits preferred, but not necessary.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Willingness to undergo a background investigation.
Ability to pass a drug screen Possession of a valid driver's license from state of residence comparable to an Indiana license required.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
